Bloemfontein Celtic were too good for Bidvest Wits when the two teams clashed twice during their pre-season practice matches in Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon.
In the first match on the day, Phunya Sele Sele registered a morale boosting 2-1 victory over The Clever Boys. Their goals were scored by the club’s 2011/2012 Player of the Season Letladi Madubanya and Danny Venter, while Wits’ consolation goal was netted by Ryan Chapman.
In another match, Clinton Larsen’s men showed Wits that their win in the first meeting was no fluke as they walloped them 3-1 with Ruzaigh Gamildien grabbing a brace. The third goal was an own goal by Wits defender Derrick Spencer.
Celtic, who are currently camping in Johannesburg as part of their pre-season training ahead of the new season, will face Lamontville Golden Arrows in a friendly encounter in Pretoria on Sunday. Then they will play against Moroka Swallows in Johannesburg on Tuesday, before engaging the University of Pretoria in Tshwane two days later.
The club will travel back to Bloemfontein on Thursday to make their final preparations before the new campaign starts.
