Bloemfontein Celtic will be engaging in a 4-Team Pre-season Tournament at the Botshabelo Stadium on Sunday in an effort to keep fit for the new season.
Other participating teams are Free State Stars, Roses United and Blackburn Rovers.
Phunya Sele Sele will use the tournament to parade new players who have all joined the club on permanent deals. They are Dominic Isaacs, Limbikani Mzava, Joel Mogorosi, Dino Visser, Kurt Lentjies, Siyabonga Nontshinga, Brent Lawler, John Arwuah and Auguston Leonard. Celtic are expected to further strengthen their squad by signing two more players in the next few days.
The Bloemfontein side go into Sunday’s tournament with their confidence levels high following their successful two-week camp in Johannesburg. They completed their series of friendlies in the Highveld on a high note on Thursday, defeating University of Pretoria 3-1 with goals scored by Nontshinga, Mogorosi and Lyle Lakay.
Khumbulani Konco, Celtic CEO, tells bloemfonteincelticfc.co.za: “This tournament will be good for us to prepare for the start of the PSL season. We will use it as a yardstick to measure our state of readiness for the new season. We want to win it to boost our morale ahead of the MTN8 Cup Competition and League campaign,”
“We have signed quality players who are ready to prove their worth against any opponent in the League. We will be competing for honours next season. So, we would like to urge all our supporters to throw their weight behind the club starting from Sunday. The good thing is that we have brought in all the new players on permanent deals.” he says.
After this pre-season tournament, Celtic will face Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 Cup quarterfinal clash at the Orlando Stadium on Friday, August 3 – with the match scheduled to kick off at 20:00.
