Mollo was recalled to the national team following an absence of three years where injuries plagued her career. However, she indicated that she had fully recovered last year when she ruthlessly exposed many teams to lead Siwelele to the Sasol championship and qualification for the national play-offs.
However, during the provincial play-offs they were in turn exposed for their lack of experience at this level and eliminated in the group stages of the play-offs. Mollo caught the attention of the national selectors with her skills and frightening pace along the wing.
A versatile player, equally at home either on the wing, or playing as a second striker who attacks from deep inside, she spent a whole week undergoing fitness tests at the High Performance Centre with several women from across the country who are earmarked for national call-ups.
“It was very exciting,” said Mollo. “I have yearned to get back into the national team and now that I have been selected, I am going to grab this opportunity with both hands. I am aware that I have to work very hard in order to achieve my objectives,” she added.
The South African Football Association will release a list of players who will represent the country at an eight-nation tournament in Cyprus and Mollo is keeping her fingers crossed that she will be included in the traveling party.
In seven league matches since the league started, the Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies have won six and lost once only against leaders Kutlwanong, who handed them a 4-1 beating. They spread fear among their opponents when they hammered OBC Ladies 11-0 in their third fixture of the season.
They piled on pressure on unbeaten Kutlwanong in the eight-team stream for the championship on Saturday as Mollo displayed the scoring form that has catapulted her back into the national frame as she created the opening goal for Meide Howard and scored the second shortly before the break.
However, a lapse in concentration allowed their opponents to score two quick goals to level the scores. Mollo restored Celtic’s lead after outstripping the opposition and then, when Howard snatched the fourth, they broke into a synchronised dance routine.
