Orlando Pirates Coach Ruud Krol’s focus is firmly on ending the trophy-less drought when his team takes on Bloemfontein Celtic in the first round of the Telkom Knockout Cup on Saturday night at the Orlando Stadium.

Some of the belief Krol has lies in what his team done before in this tournament as Pirates made it to the final of the Telkom Knockout only to be beaten by Ajax Cape Town.

“We respect Celtic, but this weekend will be a different ball game and our objective will be to win,” the Dutchman said. “They have good supporters and good players and we expect them to be at their best.”

“This past weekend games was to see who was going to finish fifth or sixth, and Cup competitions are always different. We want to go far and to start off against a team like this is a big challenge. I am sure that if we can beat them that we can go all the way.”

However, the Buccaneers are without six of their regular players who are away in Brazil with the Bafana Bafana training squad, namely star players Teko Modise, Lucas Thwala and goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs.

The Bucs mentor was not perturbed by the fact that his regulars will not be around for this important clash, indicating that he has players who are more than ready to do duty on for the Bucs.

“I’m not moaning about the loss of the Bafana Players, they are not here and I have to select other players to do the job for us,” said Krol.

“This is now an opportunity for other players to show what they can do for the team.”

One of those players who will likely to get an opportunity is Captain Lehlohonolo Seema, who has missed quite a number of games since coming back from injury.

“I think it’s good, because as players we always complain that we don’t get a chance to play,” the Lesotho international said.

“I don’t think the guys will be missed, this is a chance for the guys who are here to give the coach a headache and show that they can do the job.”

With Josephs away with the national side, Pirates will have rely on the up and coming Senzo Meyiwa to mind the Bucs goalmouth.

Kickoff is at 8:15pm.
